Seth Godin on Inaccurate Labels

Seth's blog today talks about "inaccurate labels".

Our brains use neural networks to store information (memories).

When someone tells us something, we search our neural networks for the "best fit".

Of course, your "best fit" is based on your life experiences, and there lies the problem - your life experiences are different from mine.

This is compounded by the brain's dislike for confusion, so it accepts a "best fit" that sometimes is not all that good a "fit".

Tolerating confusion, and adopting an inquisitive mindset go a long way towards avoiding misunderstanding.

Of course, this means going against human nature!
